About Mount Nebo Wilderness

Mount Nebo Wilderness encompasses 27,085 acres of federally protected backcountry in Utah, managed by the Forest Service. This is primitive, non-motorized terrain where foot travel and backpacking are the primary ways to experience the landscape. Expect solitude and self-reliance—there are no roads, motors, or mechanized travel of any kind within the wilderness boundary.

Visitors come here to hike and backpack through undeveloped country. The wilderness demands Leave No Trace ethics: pack out what you pack in, camp responsibly, and respect the land's protected status. Access is on foot only, and you'll need to plan your own route and water sources. Seasonal snow and weather variability mean timing your visit matters; summer and early fall offer the most reliable conditions, while winter conditions can be severe and impassable.
