Mount Adams Wilderness

Mount Adams Wilderness spans nearly 47,000 acres of federally protected backcountry in Washington, managed by the Forest Service as a true wilderness area. Here, the landscape is primitive and roadless—no motors, mechanized travel, or developed infrastructure. Visitors come for backcountry hiking and backpacking in a setting where solitude and self-sufficiency are the norm.

Access requires leaving your vehicle behind and traveling on foot. The wilderness operates under strict Leave No Trace principles: pack out what you pack in, camp responsibly, and respect the land's wild character. Snow and alpine conditions dominate much of the year, making summer and early fall the practical seasons for most visitors. Spring and late fall are possible but require experience with variable weather and snow.
