Mark Trail Wilderness

Mark Trail Wilderness is a 16,618-acre federally protected wilderness area in Georgia, managed by the Forest Service. It's a primitive backcountry destination where foot travel and human-powered recreation are the only options—no roads, motors, or mechanized equipment are permitted. The landscape offers rugged terrain suited to hiking and backpacking, with the primary draw being genuine solitude and the chance to experience untrammeled backcountry on your own terms.

Visitors should understand that this is true wilderness: you'll encounter no infrastructure, maintained trails may be rough or unmaintained, and self-sufficiency is essential. Leave No Trace principles are non-negotiable here. Access is on foot only, and planning should account for seasonal weather, water availability, and navigation skills.
