Magic Mountain Wilderness

Magic Mountain Wilderness is a 12,179-acre federally protected Wilderness Area in California, managed by the Forest Service. It offers backcountry hiking and backpacking in a primitive, non-motorized landscape where solitude and self-reliance are core to the experience.

This is true wilderness: no roads, no motors, no mechanized travel of any kind. Visitors travel on foot or horseback only, and the Forest Service enforces strict Leave No Trace principles. You'll encounter rugged terrain and remote country where the primary draw is isolation and untrammeled backcountry conditions, not a developed trail system or marked scenic loop.

Access is foot-traffic only. Plan for multi-day backpacking trips if you want to penetrate deep; day hikes are possible but limited to trailheads and immediate surroundings. Water sources, campsites, and routes are typical wilderness—you need map-and-compass or GPS competence, self-sufficiency, and respect for the landscape. This is not a place for casual recreation; it demands preparation and wilderness judgment.
