Lye Brook Wilderness

Lye Brook Wilderness is an 18,122-acre federally protected Wilderness Area in Vermont, managed by the Forest Service. This is primitive backcountry where roads, motors, and mechanized travel are prohibited—a place for foot traffic and human-powered recreation only. The landscape offers hiking and backpacking through undeveloped forest, with genuine solitude and the kind of remoteness that comes from enforced non-motorized access.

Visitors must follow Leave No Trace principles strictly. There are no maintained facilities, and all travel is by foot. The best time to visit is late spring through early fall, when weather is stable and trails are passable. Winter conditions can be severe and dangerous. Access points exist from surrounding national forest lands, but expect no marked infrastructure within the Wilderness itself—this is backcountry in its truest form, requiring self-sufficiency, navigation skills, and respect for wilderness regulations.
