Lost Creek Wilderness

Lost Creek Wilderness is a 115,203-acre federally protected backcountry area in Colorado managed by the Forest Service. The wilderness preserves a primitive landscape where foot travel and non-motorized recreation define the experience. Backpacking and hiking are the primary ways to explore the area; no roads, motors, or mechanized travel are permitted, keeping the terrain wild and undeveloped.

Visitors should expect genuine solitude and isolation typical of designated wilderness. All travel must be on foot, and Leave No Trace principles are essential—pack out what you pack in, camp responsibly, and minimize impact on the land. Access requires parking outside the wilderness boundary and hiking in; there are no services, trailheads with facilities, or resupply points within the area itself. Summer and early fall offer the most reliable conditions, though weather in high alpine terrain can change rapidly. Snow and weather hazards make winter travel serious and suited only to experienced backcountry users.
