About Little Dry Run Wilderness

Little Dry Run Wilderness is a 2,856-acre federally protected Wilderness Area in Virginia, managed by the Forest Service. It offers primitive backcountry terrain for hikers and backpackers seeking solitude and untracked wild country. This is true wilderness—no roads, motors, or mechanized travel are permitted. All visitors must travel on foot and practice Leave No Trace principles to preserve the area's undeveloped character.

Access is foot traffic only, and the wilderness experience demands self-sufficiency and respect for backcountry conditions. Plan ahead, carry what you need, and camp responsibly. The area is best visited during warm months when weather is stable and trails are most passable. Winter snow and cold can make travel difficult and hazardous for unprepared visitors.
