Kalmiopsis Wilderness

Kalmiopsis Wilderness is a 180,026-acre federally protected wilderness area in Oregon managed by the Forest Service. This is primitive backcountry where no roads, motorized travel, or mechanized equipment are permitted—you'll move on foot or horseback only, and the landscape remains undeveloped and wild.

The wilderness offers backpacking and hiking for those seeking genuine solitude and remote exploration. Access is trailhead-based, and visiting means committing to Leave No Trace ethics: pack out what you pack in, camp responsibly, and respect the non-motorized character of the place. This is backcountry travel, not a day-hike destination, and requires self-sufficiency and wilderness skills.
