Indian Heaven Wilderness

Indian Heaven Wilderness is a 20,783-acre federally protected Wilderness Area in Washington, managed by the Forest Service. The landscape is primitive backcountry, accessible only on foot or horseback—no roads, motors, or mechanized travel are permitted. This is a true non-motorized wilderness where solitude and Leave No Trace principles define the visitor experience.

The area offers backpacking and hiking as its primary draw, with trails threading through undeveloped terrain. Horseback riding is also allowed under wilderness rules. What you'll encounter is backcountry landscape without infrastructure: no developed campsites, no facilities, and the expectation that you pack out everything you pack in and camp responsibly with minimal impact.

Access is seasonal and weather-dependent. Snow and difficult conditions can make travel hazardous in winter and early spring, while summer and early fall offer the most reliable window for backcountry travel.
