Ibex Wilderness Area

Ibex Wilderness Area spans nearly 31,000 acres of federally protected backcountry in California, managed by the Bureau of Land Management as designated Wilderness. This is primitive country: no roads, no motorized vehicles, and no mechanized travel of any kind. It's the domain of hikers and backpackers seeking solitude in undeveloped terrain.

Visiting means embracing Leave No Trace ethics—pack out everything you pack in, camp only where appropriate, and travel on foot. There are no maintained facilities, trailheads, or developed infrastructure; access requires self-reliance and solid backcountry skills. The landscape itself is your draw: raw, quiet, and unmarked by commerce or convenience.

Season matters. Summer and early fall are the practical window for visiting. Winter and early spring bring hazardous conditions that limit or close access entirely. Plan accordingly and come prepared for genuine wilderness travel—this is not a day-hike destination or a place for casual recreation.
