Hunter-Fryingpan Wilderness

Hunter-Fryingpan Wilderness is a 82,553-acre federally protected Wilderness Area in Colorado, managed by the Forest Service. It offers backcountry hiking and backpacking in primitive terrain where motorized travel and mechanized equipment are prohibited. This is true wilderness—expect solitude, remote terrain, and the responsibility that comes with Leave No Trace ethics in a non-motorized environment.

Access requires foot travel only. There are no roads into the wilderness, and all travel must be by foot or stock animal on established trails. The area is typically accessible from late spring through early fall, though snow and weather can limit routes during shoulder seasons. Visit during peak summer months for the most reliable conditions, but plan for rapid weather changes and be prepared for alpine conditions.
