Hickory Creek Wilderness

Hickory Creek Wilderness is a 8,633-acre federally protected wilderness area in Pennsylvania managed by the Forest Service. It offers primitive backcountry hiking and backpacking in a non-motorized setting where solitude and self-reliance are central to the experience.

As a designated Wilderness Area, Hickory Creek operates under strict protection: no roads, motors, or mechanized travel are permitted. Visitors must travel on foot and practice Leave No Trace principles throughout their time in the area. This is backcountry in its truest sense—expect to navigate without developed infrastructure and to carry what you need.

Access and seasonal timing depend on weather and trail conditions. Spring through fall are the practical visiting windows, with summer and early autumn generally offering the most reliable conditions. Winter can bring significant snow and difficult travel.
