Hells Canyon Wilderness Area

Hells Canyon Wilderness Area spans 11,607 acres of federally protected backcountry in Arizona, managed by the Bureau of Land Management as a primitive, non-motorized zone. As a designated Wilderness Area, Hells Canyon operates under strict protection: no roads, no motors, no mountain bikes or other mechanized travel are permitted. Visitors must practice Leave No Trace principles—pack out all waste, camp responsibly, and minimize impact on the land. Access is foot-traffic only, which preserves the remote character and ensures that those who enter commit to a genuine backcountry experience.

Visit during the cooler months of spring and fall for the most comfortable conditions; summer heat can be severe in this desert setting. Water sources and current trail conditions should be confirmed with the BLM before your trip, as this is untracked wilderness with minimal infrastructure.
