Gearhart Mountain Wilderness

Gearhart Mountain Wilderness is a 22,613-acre federally protected wilderness area in Oregon managed by the Forest Service. This is primitive backcountry where no roads, motors, or mechanized travel are permitted—visitors experience the landscape on foot or horseback only. The wilderness offers solitude and backcountry hiking and backpacking for those seeking to escape developed areas and travel in a true non-motorized environment.

Access requires leaving vehicles behind and entering on foot. All visitors must follow Leave No Trace principles: pack out what you pack in, camp only in designated areas where permitted, and travel lightly across the land. The wilderness experience depends entirely on self-reliance and respect for the primitive character of the place.
