Garden Mountain Wilderness

Garden Mountain Wilderness is a 3,331-acre federally designated Wilderness Area in Virginia, managed by the Forest Service. It protects primitive backcountry where no roads, motors, or mechanized travel are permitted. The landscape offers opportunities for hiking and backpacking in a non-motorized setting where solitude and natural conditions prevail.

Visitors must follow strict Wilderness regulations and Leave No Trace principles. All travel is on foot; mountain bikes, vehicles, and other mechanical equipment are prohibited. This is genuine backcountry—expect to carry everything you need, camp responsibly away from water sources, and pack out all waste. Access and trailheads depend on connections through surrounding National Forest land; check with the Forest Service for current conditions and entry points.
