Galiuro Wilderness

Galiuro Wilderness spans nearly 78,000 acres of federally protected backcountry in Arizona, managed by the Forest Service as primitive, non-motorized terrain. The landscape offers remote hiking and backpacking opportunities for visitors seeking solitude and untracked country.

As a designated Wilderness Area, the land is closed to roads, motorized travel, and mechanized transport of any kind. Visitors must travel on foot or horseback and adhere to Leave No Trace principles. There are no maintained facilities, developed campsites, or infrastructure—you are responsible for your own safety, navigation, and impact.

Access is limited to trailheads and foot traffic. The remote character and lack of development mean careful planning is essential: bring maps, water, and a willingness to be self-sufficient. Seasonal conditions, particularly winter, can make travel difficult. This is a place for experienced backcountry users who value isolation and are prepared for true wilderness travel.
