Four Peaks Wilderness

Four Peaks Wilderness spans roughly 60,800 acres of federally protected backcountry in Arizona, managed by the Forest Service. This is primitive, non-motorized terrain where foot travel and backpacking are the primary ways to experience the landscape. The wilderness prohibits roads, motorized vehicles, and mechanized travel—which means you'll encounter solitude and undeveloped country, but also the responsibility to practice Leave No Trace ethics and pack out everything you pack in.

Hiking and backpacking are the core activities here. The terrain is rugged backcountry suitable for experienced wilderness travelers comfortable with route-finding and self-sufficiency. Spring and fall offer moderate temperatures, while summer heat is significant in Arizona's high desert and low-mountain zones. Winter can bring snow at higher elevations, limiting access. Access points exist around the wilderness perimeter; plan ahead, bring maps, and respect the non-motorized mandate that defines this protected area.
