Fossil Springs Wilderness

Fossil Springs Wilderness is a 10,431-acre federally protected wilderness area in Arizona managed by the Forest Service. This is primitive backcountry where motorized equipment, mechanized travel, and roads are prohibited—a landscape dedicated to non-motorized recreation and solitude.

The area offers hiking and backpacking for visitors seeking remote canyon and forest terrain. Access is on foot only, and the wilderness operates under strict Leave No Trace principles: pack out what you pack in, camp only in designated areas where permitted, use established trails, and respect the land's protected status. This is genuine backcountry, not a developed park.

Season and access depend on weather and water conditions typical of central Arizona's elevation range. Spring and fall generally offer the most stable conditions. Winter weather can create hazards, and summer heat is a serious consideration.
