Fortification Range Wilderness Area spans roughly 31,000 acres of primitive backcountry in Nevada, managed by the Bureau of Land Management as a federally protected Wilderness. The landscape offers remote hiking and backpacking in a non-motorized setting where solitude and self-reliance are core to the experience.

Visiting means embracing true wilderness conditions: no roads, motors, or mechanized travel are permitted. All movement is on foot, and the terrain demands solid navigation skills and physical preparation. Leave No Trace principles are not optional—they are the foundation of wilderness stewardship here. Water sources, weather exposure, and distance from trailheads require careful planning and self-sufficiency.

Access is limited to foot traffic from trailheads outside the Wilderness boundary. Spring and fall offer moderate conditions, while summer heat can be intense and winter snow may close high-elevation routes.
