Flatside Wilderness

Flatside Wilderness is a 10,142-acre federally protected Wilderness Area in Arkansas managed by the Forest Service. It preserves primitive backcountry where hiking and backpacking are the primary pursuits—a place to move through on foot, camp under Leave No Trace principles, and experience solitude away from roads and motors.

The wilderness allows no motorized travel, no mechanized equipment, and no permanent structures. Visitors must be entirely self-sufficient and respectful of the land. Access requires advance planning; trailheads and approach routes vary, so contact the managing Forest Service office for current access information and conditions before your trip.

Season matters in Arkansas backcountry. Late spring through early fall offers the most reliable hiking and camping weather. Winter weather can be unpredictable and hazardous.
