About El Toro Wilderness
El Toro Wilderness is a 10,361-acre federally protected wilderness area in Puerto Rico, managed by the Forest Service. It offers primitive backcountry hiking and backpacking in a non-motorized setting where solitude and Leave No Trace principles are central to the experience.
As a designated Wilderness Area, El Toro is closed to roads, motors, and mechanized travel. Visitors must travel on foot, carrying what they need and packing out all waste. The landscape and specific trail conditions are best confirmed with the Forest Service before planning your trip, as wilderness areas in Puerto Rico operate under strict preservation standards.
