Dry Creek Wilderness

Dry Creek Wilderness is a 6,301-acre federally protected wilderness area in Arkansas managed by the Forest Service. It offers backcountry hiking and backpacking in a primitive, non-motorized setting where solitude and self-reliance are central to the experience.

This is true wilderness: no roads, motors, or mechanized travel are permitted. Visitors must travel on foot and camp in the backcountry using Leave No Trace principles. The landscape reflects the rugged character typical of wild Arkansas forest terrain, offering a genuine escape from developed areas.

Access requires planning. There are no maintained facilities or trailheads within the wilderness itself—you'll approach on foot from surrounding National Forest lands. Spring through early fall generally offers the most reliable conditions; winter weather and water levels can make travel difficult. Come prepared for self-sufficient backcountry travel and expect to encounter minimal signs of human use.
