Dome Wilderness

Dome Wilderness is a 5,178-acre federally protected wilderness area in New Mexico managed by the Forest Service. It offers primitive backcountry hiking and backpacking for visitors seeking solitude in a roadless environment. The area is managed under strict wilderness rules: no motorized vehicles, no mechanical travel, and no roads. Visitors must practice Leave No Trace principles and self-reliance is essential—this is non-motorized backcountry where you'll find no developed infrastructure.

Access is on foot only, and the landscape character is that of untracked wilderness. Seasonal snow and weather conditions dictate when the area is safely passable. Spring and fall transitions can bring variable conditions. Plan for a true backcountry experience with map, compass, and preparation for self-sufficiency in an isolated setting.
