Desolation Canyon Wilderness Area

Desolation Canyon Wilderness Area spans 160,230 acres of remote backcountry in Utah, managed by the Bureau of Land Management as a federally designated Wilderness. The landscape is primitive and roadless, accessible only on foot or horseback—no motorized vehicles, mountain bikes, or mechanized travel of any kind are permitted.

The wilderness offers solitude and self-reliant backcountry travel for hikers and backpackers willing to navigate without established trail infrastructure. Visitors should expect rugged terrain and come prepared with navigation skills, adequate water, and Leave No Trace practices. Access requires planning; there are no roads into the interior, and entry points are limited and distant from major towns.

Spring and fall are typically the most accessible seasons, though weather and water availability vary significantly. Winter travel is possible but demanding.
