Cougar Canyon Wilderness Area

Cougar Canyon Wilderness Area spans over 10,600 acres of federally protected backcountry in southern Utah, managed by the Bureau of Land Management as designated Wilderness. The landscape is primitive and roadless, offering visitors a genuine backcountry experience far from developed infrastructure. Hiking and backpacking are the primary ways to explore the area; there are no motorized vehicles, mountain bikes, or mechanized travel of any kind permitted within the Wilderness boundary.

This is a place for solitude and self-reliance. Visitors must follow Leave No Trace principles, pack out all waste, and camp responsibly. Access is on foot only, and water sources, trail conditions, and seasonal weather can be variable—preparation and navigation skills matter. Spring through fall is the practical window for visiting, though early season snow melt and late-season heat should factor into trip planning.
