Cottonwood Forest Wilderness

Cottonwood Forest Wilderness is a 2,649-acre federally protected wilderness area in Utah managed by the Forest Service. It offers backcountry hiking and backpacking in a primitive setting where motorized travel, mechanized equipment, and maintained roads are prohibited. Visitors come here to experience solitude and undeveloped landscape on foot, following Leave No Trace principles and carrying out all waste.

Access is on foot only; plan accordingly with proper gear and water. The area is best visited during warmer months when trails are clear and weather is stable. Winter conditions can make travel difficult and potentially dangerous. This is true wilderness—prepare for self-reliance, minimal infrastructure, and the responsibility that comes with backcountry travel in a protected area.
