Copper Salmon Wilderness

Copper Salmon Wilderness is a 13,724-acre federally protected wilderness area in Oregon, managed by the Forest Service. It offers backcountry hiking and backpacking in a primitive, non-motorized landscape where solitude and self-reliance are central to the experience.

As a designated Wilderness Area, the place operates under strict protection: no roads, motors, or mechanized travel are permitted. Visitors must travel on foot or horseback and practice Leave No Trace principles to preserve the landscape. This is genuine backcountry—expect no facilities, maintained trails, or developed access. Access and seasonal conditions depend on snow and weather; spring and early summer can bring high water and muddy terrain, while winter typically closes the area to safe travel.
