Cold Wash Wilderness Area

Cold Wash Wilderness Area is a 12,452-acre federally protected wilderness in Utah managed by the Bureau of Land Management. This is primitive backcountry where motors, mechanized travel, and roads are prohibited—a genuine non-motorized landscape for those seeking solitude and a remote outdoor experience.

Hiking and backpacking are the primary ways to explore the area. The wilderness demands self-sufficiency and adherence to Leave No Trace principles: pack out all waste, camp only on durable surfaces, minimize fire impact, and respect the landscape's fragile character. There are no facilities, maintained trails, or services within the wilderness boundary.

Access and timing matter. The area's desert and high-elevation terrain is most accessible during the warmer months when snow doesn't block routes and water sources are more reliable. Winter conditions can render the wilderness challenging or impassable.
