Clearwater Wilderness

Clearwater Wilderness is a 14,615-acre federally designated Wilderness Area in Washington, managed by the Forest Service. It protects primitive backcountry where no roads, motors, or mechanized travel are permitted—all access is on foot or horseback. The landscape offers classic wilderness hiking and backpacking in a non-motorized setting where solitude and Leave No Trace ethics are core to the experience.

Visitors should understand that Wilderness designation means embracing self-reliance and minimal-impact travel. Trails are maintained but remain rustic; you'll encounter creek crossings, exposed terrain, and conditions that shift with season. Access typically requires driving to a trailhead on National Forest land, then proceeding entirely under your own power.
