Chupadera Wilderness Area

Chupadera Wilderness Area is a 5,443-acre federally protected wilderness in New Mexico managed by the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service. It offers primitive backcountry experience in a landscape shaped for non-motorized travel—hiking and backpacking are the primary ways to explore the area.

As a designated Wilderness Area, Chupadera operates under strict rules: no roads, no motors, and no mechanized travel of any kind. The backcountry is rustic and undeveloped by design.
