About Cecil D. Andrus-White Clouds Wilderness

Cecil D. Andrus-White Clouds Wilderness is a federally protected Wilderness Area in Idaho managed by the Forest Service. As designated backcountry, it is closed to motorized and mechanized travel—no vehicles, no mountain bikes, no chainsaws. This is primitive country where the rules are strict: pack out what you pack in, stay on established routes, camp responsibly, and leave no trace of your visit.

The wilderness welcomes hikers and backpackers seeking solitude in non-motorized terrain. Access is on foot only, and the experience depends entirely on your own effort and Leave No Trace ethics. Seasonal snow and weather dictate when the area is safely passable; check with the Forest Service for current conditions before heading out, as this is true backcountry with real exposure to the elements.
