Cebolla Wilderness Area

Cebolla Wilderness Area spans nearly 62,000 acres of federally protected backcountry in New Mexico, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. This is primitive land—no roads, motors, or mechanized travel are permitted. Visitors come to hike, backpack, and experience deep solitude in a remote landscape far from development.

The wilderness operates under strict Leave No Trace principles. You'll travel on foot, camp lightly, and pack out everything you pack in. Water sources, trail conditions, and access points should be researched in advance through the BLM. Spring through fall generally offers the most reliable visiting conditions, though weather and snow can affect high-elevation sections. Plan for self-sufficiency: the landscape rewards those willing to move slowly and leave no trace of their passage.
