Caney Creek Wilderness

Caney Creek Wilderness is a 14,262-acre federally protected wilderness area in Arkansas managed by the Forest Service. It offers backcountry hiking and backpacking in a primitive, non-motorized setting where solitude and natural forest character define the experience.

The wilderness is closed to all motor vehicles, mechanized travel, and mountain bikes. Visitors must travel on foot or horseback and practice Leave No Trace principles—pack out what you pack in, camp below tree line where permitted, and respect the land as a wild place. There are no maintained facilities, developed campsites, or roads within the wilderness boundary.

Access is from trailheads on the perimeter; plan for self-sufficient backcountry travel with map and compass skills. Spring through fall offers the most reliable hiking conditions, with summer heat and occasional wet conditions a consideration. Winter travel is possible but less common. This is a true wilderness experience—expect solitude, primitive conditions, and the responsibility that comes with traveling in unroaded backcountry.
