Blue Range Wilderness

Blue Range Wilderness encompasses nearly 30,000 acres of federally protected backcountry in New Mexico, managed by the Forest Service. This is primitive, roadless terrain where all travel is non-motorized and foot-powered—no vehicles, no mountain bikes, no mechanized equipment allowed. The wilderness offers genuine solitude for backpackers and hikers willing to leave civilization behind and travel on foot through undeveloped landscape.

Visitors must embrace Leave No Trace principles: pack out everything you pack in, camp away from water sources, use established campsites where they exist, and travel lightly on the land. There are no maintained facilities or marked trail systems in the traditional sense—navigation and self-reliance are essential skills. Access requires a vehicle to reach trailheads on National Forest land surrounding the wilderness boundary, and seasonal conditions (snow, water availability, temperature swings) dictate the practical visiting window. This is a place for experienced backcountry travelers who understand wilderness rules and are prepared for self-sufficient travel in remote country.
