Blood Mountain Wilderness

Blood Mountain Wilderness is a 7,742-acre federally protected Wilderness Area in Georgia, managed by the Forest Service. The landscape is primitive backcountry—a non-motorized zone where foot traffic is the only way in. You'll find remote hiking and backpacking opportunities through undeveloped terrain, with the solitude that comes from strict wilderness designation.

What defines a visit here is what's forbidden: no roads, no motors, no mechanized travel of any kind. This is Leave No Trace country. Pack in everything you need and pack out everything you bring. The wilderness rules exist to keep the land primitive and protect it from development. Access is on foot only, and you'll need to be self-sufficient—water, shelter, and navigation are your responsibility. Seasonal conditions in the Georgia backcountry mean spring through fall are your best windows, though winter weather can close high-elevation terrain. Check with the Forest Service for current conditions and any permit requirements before you go.
