Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness Area

Black Ridge Canyons Wilderness Area spans over 75,000 acres of federally protected backcountry in Colorado, managed by the Bureau of Land Management. This is primitive, non-motorized terrain where canyons, ridges, and remote terrain define the landscape—a place built for self-reliant travel on foot or horseback.

Hiking and backpacking are the primary pursuits here. The wilderness offers solitude and distance from roads and development, drawing visitors seeking a genuine backcountry experience. Access is typically from trailheads on the periphery; once inside, you travel by human power only.

Wilderness rules are strict and essential: no motorized or mechanized travel of any kind, no mountain bikes, no wheeled stock. This is untracked, unmarked country in many areas; navigation skills and preparation are non-negotiable.
