Big Slough Wilderness

Big Slough Wilderness is a 3,521-acre federally protected wilderness area in Texas, managed by the Forest Service. The landscape consists of bottomland forest and wetland character typical of the region's river systems, offering a genuinely remote backcountry experience in a state where true wilderness is scarce.

The wilderness is open to hiking, backpacking, and backcountry camping for those seeking solitude and immersion in primitive conditions. No motorized vehicles, mountain bikes, or mechanized travel are permitted—travel is by foot only. This protection keeps the area quiet and undeveloped, a genuine escape from development.
