Anaconda Pintler Wilderness

Anaconda Pintler Wilderness is a 158,753-acre federally protected wilderness area in Montana managed by the Forest Service. It encompasses high backcountry terrain where hiking and backpacking form the core of the experience. This is primitive, non-motorized country—no roads, motors, or mechanized travel are permitted. Visitors come here for solitude and immersion in undeveloped landscape, away from established infrastructure.

Access is by foot or horseback only. The wilderness operates under strict Leave No Trace principles; this is not a place for casual day trips or developed facilities. Weather and snow determine the season: summer and early fall offer the most reliable window, though shoulder seasons can work depending on snow melt and conditions. Plan for genuine backcountry self-sufficiency—navigation, weather awareness, and preparedness are essential. This is a place to respect the wilderness designation and your own limits.
