About Umpqua National Forest

Umpqua National Forest spans over 700,000 acres across Oregon and offers a wide range of outdoor recreation on public land managed by the Forest Service. The forest supports fishing in its streams and lakes, hiking and backpacking on numerous trails, dispersed camping throughout its backcountry, and hunting during appropriate seasons. Scenic driving routes wind through the forest, providing access to viewpoints and recreation areas. Winter conditions can make portions of the forest impassable or hazardous, particularly at higher elevations, while summer and fall represent the primary seasons for most activities. Access varies by road and trailhead; check current conditions with the Forest Service before planning your visit, as weather and seasonal closures affect where you can go.
