Targhee National Forest

Targhee National Forest spans over 742,000 acres across Idaho, offering the full range of Forest Service recreation on public land managed for multiple uses. Visitors will find trails and dispersed camping throughout the forest, along with opportunities for fishing, scenic driving, and hunting during appropriate seasons. Access depends on season and weather; snow and winter conditions close many routes from late fall through spring, while summer and early fall offer the most reliable access and comfortable conditions for backcountry exploration. This is working forest land without the infrastructure of a major recreation destination, so come prepared for remote conditions and variable trail maintenance.
