Sumter National Forest

Sumter National Forest spans over 351,000 acres across South Carolina, offering a mix of forest recreation on public land managed by the Forest Service. The landscape supports fishing in creeks and streams, hiking and backpacking on established trails, and dispersed camping throughout the forest. Hunting is permitted in designated seasons, and scenic drives provide vehicle access to quieter parts of the forest. Spring through fall are the most comfortable seasons for outdoor activity, with mild winters allowing year-round access for those prepared for cooler, wetter conditions.
