Roosevelt National Forest

Roosevelt National Forest spans over 427,000 acres across Colorado and offers the mixed-use recreation typical of USFS lands—hiking and backpacking on established trails, dispersed camping throughout the forest, fly fishing in cold-water streams, scenic driving on forest roads, and hunting in designated seasons. The landscape varies from montane forest to alpine terrain, with access from nearby Front Range communities. Summer and early fall are the prime seasons; much of the higher terrain remains snow-covered or muddy through spring, and winter weather closes many roads and high-elevation routes. Visitors should expect variable conditions depending on elevation and aspect, plan ahead for water and weather, and check current Forest Service conditions before heading out, particularly after heavy snow or spring runoff.
