Okanogan National Forest

Okanogan National Forest spans nearly 640,000 acres across Washington and offers a diverse landscape for outdoor recreation. The forest provides opportunities for hiking and backpacking, dispersed camping throughout its backcountry, fishing in streams and lakes, and scenic driving along forest roads. Hunting is permitted during designated seasons, and the forest supports wildlife viewing and photography across varied terrain.

Access is year-round in principle, but winter snow closes many higher-elevation roads and trails from December through March. The best visiting season runs from late spring through early fall, when trails are clear and weather is stable. Summer months offer the most reliable conditions for camping and backcountry travel. Spring and fall provide good opportunities for those prepared for variable weather and occasional snow at elevation.
