Lassen National Forest

Lassen National Forest spans over 830,000 acres across northern California, offering a mix of dispersed camping, fishing, hiking, and backcountry exploration in a landscape shaped by volcanic geology and mixed conifer forests. The forest supports multiple-use recreation: you'll find established trails for day hiking and backpacking, fishing in creeks and alpine lakes, dispersed camping throughout the forest, and opportunities for scenic driving on forest roads. Hunting is permitted during designated seasons. Access varies by elevation and snowfall; higher elevations remain snow-covered well into spring, while lower areas open earlier. The forest sees heaviest use in summer and early fall when roads and trails are fully passable.
