Inyo National Forest

Inyo National Forest spans over 423,000 acres across California and offers a broad range of recreation on public land managed by the Forest Service. The forest supports hiking, backpacking, and camping—both developed and dispersed—along with fishing in streams and lakes, scenic driving routes, and hunting during designated seasons. The landscape and access vary significantly by elevation and season; lower valleys and foothills are accessible much of the year, while high alpine areas and passes are snow-bound in winter and typically open from late spring through early fall. Summer and early fall represent the prime season for most activities, though shoulder seasons in spring and late fall can be rewarding for those prepared for variable conditions.
