Gunnison National Forest

Gunnison National Forest spans nearly 720,000 acres across Colorado and offers diverse recreation across high-elevation terrain. The forest supports a breadth of pursuits: hiking and backpacking on established trails, dispersed camping throughout the landscape, and fishing in streams and lakes. Access and season are key considerations. High elevation means snow closes many roads and trails from December through March. Summer and early fall—June through October—represent the prime window for most activities, though shoulder months may see lingering snow or early storms.
